Low Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is strongly related to your sense of self-worth. Low self-esteem can result from being in an undermining relationship with a partner, parent, carer, peer, or work colleague. Being in an abusive relationship, or experiencing bullying, for example, can damage your self-esteem. Self-esteem can also be negatively impacted by physical issues such as chronic pain, serious illness, or disability. Symptoms of low self-esteem include being self-critical, focusing on your negatives and ignoring your positives, blaming yourself for things that aren’t your fault, thinking that other people are better than you, finding it hard to accept positive feedback, and fear of failure. Therapy can help you to improve your self-confidence, build on your assertiveness skills, develop your sense of identity, and generally feel more secure in yourself.
